Episode 06 — From Consultation to Completion
Many people ring me up and ask, “How much to draw plans?” But plans aren’t a product. Architecture is a process, and there’s a lot that needs to happen before you get to the instructions your builder will use.
In Episode 06, I walk through Chapter 6 of Babe, Let’s Build a House: the traditional process a registered NZIA architect or ADNZ designer will probably follow. I cover the predesign and brief stage, preliminary design and site feasibility, sketch and concept design, developed design and resource consent, detailed design and working drawings, procurement and tendering, contract administration versus contract observation, and completion.
Our homes are our largest financial asset, the largest bill we’ll ever pay and the longest to pay off. This process deserves careful consideration so you end up with something that holds its value and serves you well.
